When you hear the term skin care products, what comes to mind? Usually we think of products that treat just the skin on our face. But in reality, there are literally thousands of items on the market that treat the skin on our entire body. There is a product for just about every conceivable use. There are products that treat acne, reduce wrinkles, shrink our pore size, give us a healthy tan and even reduce the amount of hair we grow. Even though the industry has been gaining recognition lately by all the star power behind it, its not like its a new market. Men and Women have been using skin care products to help care for their skin for centuries. Just look at any vintage Sears Roebuck Catalog. The items to care for your skin were found right along with the tonics and elixirs to cure what ails you.

In the earlier time of skin care industry, products were made from ingredients we would find questionable today. Some face creams were made of Pigeon excrement, or parts of a turtle. These ingredients made the product seem exotic back then but would make them illegal today. Now most products are formulated in labs based on years of testing. Todays consumer has the opportunity to do product research over the internet. You can compare thousands of items in a matter of minutes. Most every product made has a website that gives you ingredients in the products, directions for use and even free samples.

Even though Skin Care Products have been around for centuries, a lot has changed. At one time only royalty and the rich elite had access to skin care products. They were considered a luxury item, not for the common man. Now everyone has access to products. You can find items in your local dollar store or your high priced department store. You can even find skin care products in your grocery store. The only limit is the amount of money you want to spend. Every magazine you look in has a celebrity endorsing some type of product promising to change whatever you dont like about yourself. Luckily for the consumer there are regulations in place that prevent the product from advertising results it cant deliver or products that could have dangerous results or side effects. When looking for a skin care product you have to be realistic, dont expect miracles, and do your research.

br
Skin is your largest and most visible organ since it covers the entire body. Having attractive, healthy skin starts from the inside and reflects on the outside. The first step towards taking proper care of your skin is to determine what type of skin you are in right now. The American Academy of Dermatology acknowledges several different types of skin. Your skin type can also change depending upon certain internal factors, such as health problems, hormonal imbalances or taking certain medications.

The following are guidelines to help you identify your particular kind of skin and choose products with all natural skin care ingredients that are suitable for it:

Normal: This type of skin is neither exceedingly dry or oily and usually has no blemishes or discolorations. Natural treatments include chamomile, cypress, camphor, rose, lavender, rosemary, sweet almond oil, grape seed and soy.

Dry: If you skin is flaky, ashy, and tight but lacking in elasticity, you have dry skin. Herbal remedies include orange, jasmine, carrot seed, avocado, calendula, rose hips and rice bran.

Oily: Skin that appears slick or shiny with enlarged pores is considered oily. A tissue rubbed against this skin will have oily residue on it from all areas of your face. Helpful herbs include lemongrass, peppermint, thyme, cedar wood, geranium, patchouli, hazelnut, olive and refined coconut oil.

Combination: If you have combination skin, your forehead, chin and nose are oily and there are dry patches near your hair and jaw lines. When you rub a tissue on your skin and only the t-zone areas around your forehead, nose and chin yield oily residue, then you surely have combination skin. Holistic solutions for combination skin include ylang ylang, rosewood, sweet orange, jojoba and apricot.

Acne-prone: Skin with enlarged pores that is disposed to clogging, blackheads, whiteheads, cysts and redness is acne-prone. Herbal remedies such as tea tree oil, manuka, basil, mint, grapefruit, coriander, lime, hazelnut and grape seed are often used for acne-prone skin.

Sensitive: This type of skin is often blotchy and prone to redness, rashes and irritation. Natural treatments with rose, jasmine, carrot, almond, sesame, calendula and jojoba have been effective and are usually non-irritating.

Water is another simple, all natural skin care solution for people with all types of skin to keep hydrated. Experts have found that healthy skin is promoted by consuming water equal to half of your body weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you would drink 75 ounces of water a day for maximum health benefits. Furthermore, the simplest and most effective skin care regime includes a using a gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen all year round.

By figuring out your individual skin type, you can incorporate all natural skin care products into a simple routine to enhance the health of your skin so that you can look and feel your best everyday.br
br
With herbs for skin care you must examine two related but separate questions. First, what are some common medicinal herbs used in skin care? And second, do they actually work? In this article I will also talk about the skin conditions that these herbs can treat.

Basil, or Holy Basil as it is sometimes referred to is used for all manner of medicinal purposes. As a skin care product it is regarded as a de-toxifier that is particularly effective in the treatment of acne. However some fans of the herb claim that ..the soil on which the basil plant grows becomes so pure that if you have a mud bath with that soil almost all ailments of the skin disappear. It is rather difficult to believe that basil (and the associated soil) could possibly live up to these claims.

Sandalwood oil is another popular herbal skin care treatment. Since the oil is extracted from the wood of a tree, the definition of herbal is a little tenuous. Not that this seems to worry the people who promote it. An important word of caution should be applied to sandalwood oil. It should not be applied directly to the skin rather it must be mixed with a carrier oil such as Bergamot, Geranium, or Lavender. It is claimed that sandalwood relieves itchiness and irritation, and cures a wide variety of common skin problems. Much like Basil Sandalwood is also used to treat a variety of other medical complaints.

Turmeric is also used in herbal skin care. It is used to remove fine lines, dark circles under the eyes, eczema, and even psoriasis. It is also included in some sunscreens.

It is fair to say that at least some of the claims made by some fans and some skin care producers of herbal skin care products are wildly exaggerated. It is however, foolhardy to dismiss herbal skin care entirely it is a matter of separating fact from fiction. Do not let wildly exaggerated claims either put you off or push you towards herbal skin care. Use a reputable skin care company and your own good sense and you too can reap the benefits.

br
Dry skin, formally known as xerosis, can appear anywhere on your body, ranging from your face, to your arms and legs, to your feet. Dry skin has a low level of sebum, the oil naturally produced by the skin to keep it lubricated. Because of dry skins inability to retain moisture, it is usually chapped, cracked and feels tight, especially after washing.

Dry skin can be caused by many factors. Some people are genetically inclined to dry skin. Poor diet and nutritional deficiencies contribute to parched skin. Exposure to the elements, such as sun, wind, cold and chemicals, can dry out your skin. Medical conditions, such as diabetes and an underactive thyroid can cause dehydrated skin, as well as skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

You should be gentle with your dry skin care treatment. Cleansing is important, but harsh soaps should be avoided, as well as hot water. A skin cleanser formulated for dry skin, coupled with lukewarm water, is the best way to wash up and should be done twice daily. Avoid vigorous scrubbing and rubbing with washcloths and towels so that a layer of moisture remains on your skin. Follow up with a moisturizer and consider using one with a sunscreen of at least SPF15 to protect your skin from sun exposure during the day.

There are several other helpful ways to hydrate parched skin. Using a humidifier in your home can improve the condition of your skin by keeping the surface hydrated. Avoid detergents with harsh chemicals and strong fragrances, which can irritate your skin. Wear clothing that is made of breathable, natural materials, such as cotton, and avoid itchy fabrics, such as nylon or wool. Drink at least six to eight glasses of water per day to keep your entire body properly hydrated. Finally, a healthy, well-balanced diet that is rich is vitamins A, B5 and C supports healthy skin and overall body fitness.

With a little extra care and attention, your dry skin can be supple, well-nourished and beautiful.br
As you know, there are actually hundreds of derma affliction articles on the market. Selecting the appropriate derma affliction artefact for your derma blazon can be cutting and arresting accustomed the advanced array to accept from, abnormally accurate if you ache with botheration derma such as eczema, psoriasis, developed acne, derma rashes, dermatitis, or rosacea. Additionally, abounding humans ache from a aggregate of altitude such as badly adipose in one breadth and dry and cool in addition area.

Today, added and added humans are developing derma sensitivities to bogus capacity and acrid chemicals that our begin in our derma affliction products. Not alone are humans acceptable added acute to these chemicals, they are adverse to our eco-system.

Another agency accidental to derma admiration are diet, medications, the ambiance (free radicals), hormones, accent and your all-embracing health. Slathering your face with assorted types of derma affliction articles fabricated from altered manufacturers can could cause derma sensitivity. A canteen of moisturizer from architect A is apparently not advised to plan with a toner from architect B. Two abstracted derma affliction articles from altered manufacturers are not formulated to plan together.

For instance, lets attending at pH level, the altitude of acids and acrid in the skin. The bulk of acerbic in the derma determines the skins attrition to bacteria. Anniversary cast of derma affliction articles is accurately tailored to plan calm to advance an optimal pH level. The cleanser, moisturizer and toner all from the aforementioned architect will set the pH akin that adulation anniversary product. If bond brands, one companys pH antithesis ambit may be absolutely altered from the pH antithesis ambit of addition manufacturer. The derma works accustomed at aggravating to advance optimal akin of oils and pH balance. If bond altered brands of derma affliction products, the after-effects can be damaging to the skin. The derma becomes asymmetric and even abashed which leads to acne, allergies, rashes, and derma acuteness to name a few.

Just as bond accepted domiciliary cleaners together, which can be toxic, so can be said about bond and analogous derma affliction products. Although they may not be toxic, you can acquaintance derma acuteness in the approaching or acquaintance breakouts, rashes, or contemporary derma dermatitis.

So if you are apprehensive why you derma affliction affairs doesnt accommodate the after-effects you would expect, yield a acceptable attending at the assorted types of derma affliction articles you are using. Are they just a hodge-podge of articles from altered manufacturers?

I do apprehend that complete derma affliction systems can be absolutely pricey, abnormally if times are a little bound for everyone. However, what acceptable is spending $20 or added for a toner alone to accept it affray with your moisturizer. You are not accomplishing your derma any favor with a assembly of products, and could be ambience yourself up derma problems in the future.

The derma is a astonishing organ, the better in the physique and it responds bound to breakable admiring care. Yield affliction of your appearance and it will do aggregate by itself accessible to be soft, clear, and healthy.

br
For most issues related to teenagers, fads rule the roost. And skin care issues are highest among teenagers. Today any medium, be it magazines, newspapers, television or the Internet are inundated with skin care related articles. These articles could include various therapies and homemade solutions for skin care. Ranging from the totally natural to those which involve chemicals, these articles provide the reader with the much needed solutions to their skin related problems.

These days, the latest craze in skin care regimes is natural antioxidant skin care. The belief that is being popularized these days is that the more natural the product being used the more effective and devoid of side effects it will be. This concept has a strong historical background since it is a known fact that queens and princesses of the ages gone by used natural extracts of plants like hibiscus and olive to keep their skin glowing and youthful. Over time, man has processed these very elements and made them available to the common man in the form of tubes, bottles and cans containing moisturizers, creams, shampoos and anti-aging gels. These contain the richness of the abundant health secrets hidden in the flora and fauna of the jungles. The only difference is that they are more likely to have been processed in a research laboratory and tested before being presented to you for use.

These distilled ingredients used to a healthy body are being called nutriceuticals at large. This new addition to the dictionary is made up of the words nutrients and pharmaceutical.

Most companies which make skin care related products tout the goodness of antioxidants and natural products that contain antioxidants. An antioxidant is something that destroys the harmful oxygen free radicals. These free radicals could be a product of normal functioning of the body or could be generated due to external factors like ultraviolet rays from the sun.

Though the concept of free radicals is extremely complicated to explain, suffice it to know that these radicals can be harmful and can result in mutation in genes. Mutation can lead to skin cancer and make the individual incapable of repairing the damage done to the skin. With antioxidants we can limit the number of free radicals in our system, thereby ensuring that we not only keep our skin supple and glowing but also healthy. This wonderful discovery of how antioxidants can work to negate the effect of free radicals had led to fantastic products which can help in tackling issues related to ageing skin. Problems like wrinkles, spots, pigmentation and small growths can be resolved with increasing the amount of antioxidants in your diet and oral application of antioxidant concentrates./pbr

Author: Ryan Cote -

The sebaceous glands in your skin form an oil called sebum, which lubricates and protects the surface of your skin. When the glands are overproductive and form too much sebum, your skin can appear greasy, shiny and course, with large pores and more frequent breakouts. This condition is known as oily skin.

Oily skin can be caused by a wide variety of factors, including genetics, fluctuating hormone levels, dietary choices, certain cosmetics and hot, humid weather. Although oily skin is prevalent in teenagers because skin becomes dryer with age, it can occur at any age. When your skin is oily only in certain areas, this is known as combination skin. The one advantage of having oily skin is that it tends to age at a slower rate than any other type of skin.

For oily skin care treatment, it is imperative to cleanse oily skin two to three times per day. Gentle cleansers with lukewarm water work best to remove oils without stripping the surface of the skin. A gentle astringent or toner should be used after cleansing. Finally, a light moisturizer that is not oil-based can be used in areas prone to dryness, such as around the eyes and mouth. Since oily skin tends to be scaly, the use of a mask twice a week can be very helpful in deep cleansing the pores and removing dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. Another great technique for cleansing the pores is to steam your face over hot water for several minutes twice a week. This loosens the sebum in clogged pores and makes your skin look cleaner and more vital.

Healthy living habits can also improve the appearance and condition of oily skin. Drinking six to eight glasses of water per day, regular exercise and sleep and avoiding cigarettes are good ways to have beautiful skin. Supplementing your diet with vitamins A, B, C, E and zinc also promote healthy skin. With a little extra attention, you can dramatically improve the condition and appearance of your oily skin. If these ideas do not help and your skin remains prone to constant breakouts, you may have a skin condition known as acne, which requires additional care and treatment.

Properly cleansing is the basis for healthy skin, no matter what your age or skin type is. Whether your skin is dry, oily or combination, or you have acne, keeping it clean is an important part of having skin that looks and feels beautiful.

Harsh chemicals and soaps should always be avoided so as to not strip your skin of natural oils. Gentle soaps and cleansers work the best on all skin types. If you are particularly concerned about your dry or oily skin, choose a cleanser that is formulated for specific skin type you have. When cleansing your skin, the best temperate to use is lukewarm. If you have oily skin, a steaming facial over hot water can help to unclog the pores without stripping your skin of essential oils, as cleansing with hot water itself would.

A clean, cotton facecloth can be used to gently moisten your face prior to cleansing, but do not rub or scrub with it, which can irritate or dry your skin. A facecloth does not have to be used to properly cleanse your skin and is a matter of personal preference. A soft towel made of natural fiber should be put in service to dry the skin. Blot the towel over your skin, without rubbing or scrubbing, until your skin is smooth and dry to the touch.

For dry or normal skin, it is sufficient to cleanse your skin twice per day. If you have acne, oily skin or combination skin, you can wash your face up to three times per day. Sometimes a toner or astringent is used to deep cleanse oily skin or skin with acne after the traditional cleansing routine. This removes oil that is trapped in the pores to leave a cleaner, smoother complexion.

Drinking enough water and eating well-balanced meals can assist your body’s system in internally cleansing skin care. A healthy lifestyle reflects on your skin so staying in good physical condition can aid in the the good appearance of your skin.

Following a sensible cleansing routine will help to give you the lovely, china doll complexion you want.

It is a common fact that excessive exposure to sunlight can be harmful to the skin. However, cold weather can take its toll on your skin, too, especially if you have sensitive or dry skin. Lower external temperatures, windy and the fact is raising the thermostat in your house may make your skin chapped, flaky, spots, dryness and itching. During the summer, are more likely to care for our skin because of the constant need relief now, as sunscreen and insect repellent. However, winter is the time when our skin really needs the attention of most of the extras. To help your skin to survive the brutality of the season, consider the following simple tips for winter skin care: 1. Continue using a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. Even if you do not feel well, the sun can be as powerful when reflecting on the snow or while taking a long walk outdoors as it is on a summer day at the beach. One suggestion is convenient to use a moisturizer or foundation with a built-in sun all day. 2. Use a mild cleanser instead of soap, which can strip skin of essential oils you need. 3. Although you may not be as thirsty as during the summer, continue to drink plenty of water to provide necessary hydration for the skin. 4. Avoid products with high alcohol content, heavy perfumes or other additives that can irritate sensitive skin dry. 5. During cold weather, may try to use thicker, richer moisturizer, two to three times a day to help the skin to adequately replenish the moisture lost. 6. Gently exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells that can form surface due to excessive dryness. 7. Remember that your lips are also part of the facial skin so soft use a lip balm or moisturizing lipstick, preferably with a sunscreen. 8. Try to keep an anti-itch cream on hand to apply to excessively dry patches that occur despite taking the above suggestions, so you can moisturize these tender areas to avoid scratching and prevent infection. Taking a few precautions common sense winter skin care, you can be as happy and beautiful in winter as they are during the summer.
