You don’t have to go out and buy over-the-counter or prescription products to treat skin problems. There are medicinal herbs for skin that are very effective at treating different conditions.

If OTC or prescription products have irritated your skin in the past, it will be beneficial for you to try herbal skin care products before trying different synthetic products.

Medicinal herbs for the skin are very safe and have been used with great success by many people. In fact, most pharmaceutical drugs originate by isolating a single chemical in a medicinal herb and then mass producing that chemical.

But it’s up to you to do your research to find the herbal skin care products for your specific condition. Most medical doctors will not discuss natural cures with you in great detail.

I’ll briefly discuss some herbs and the different problems they can treat:

Avocado Extract – Oil extracted from the avocado plant is rich and deeply-penetrating. It has many nutrients, including vitamins A, D, E, beta-carotene, potassium, and mono-unsaturated fatty acids to name just a few.

If you suffer from psoriasis or eczema, avocado oil has been shown to relieve the dryness and itching. The sterolins in the oil also help to reduce age spots.

Honey Extracted from the Manuka Bush – This is more simply referred to as manuka honey. Manuka honey meeting certain criteria and classified as “active” is best.

Manuka honey contains a special enzyme that gives it antibacterial and antioxidant properties. It is particularly effective in healing acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It also supports the skin’s cell renewal process.

Jojoba Oil – This oil is harvested from the jojoba plant that grows wild in Mexico, Arizona, and California. It’s unique because it closely resembles human sebum (skin oil).

In fact, if you suffer from oily skin, apply some jojoba oil. It actually balances the sebum in your skin, slowing oil production.

It’s also an excellent moisturizer and can help lighten and heal scars and reduce stretch marks.

Witch Hazel Extract – Witch hazel extract has a natural soothing effect on the skin. It is a natural antioxidant and astringent. It also helps heal cracked or blistered skin as well as psoriasis or eczema.

These are just a few of the great medicinal herbs for skin you can find in quality herbal skin care products. There are hundreds more you will discover as you do your research.

The important thing to remember before you buy any products is to make sure you are purchasing herbal skin care products produced by companies that spend the money to research and develop and do not compromise quality. Medicinal herbs for skin are very beneficial but only if they’re processed with great care.

Skin care products not only affect your skin, but can produce results throughout your entire body, and it is determined by the presence or lack of chemicals in these products whether those results are good or bad. With herbal skin care products, you receive the benefits of skin care using natural ingredients and some of these herbal treatments provided benefits toward the entire body as well. It is important to read the label of ingredients of skin care products before seeking to buy anything, even if it is cheap; so read up now and learn some of the common chemicals you should seek and avoid.

Unlike herbal skin care and other natural remedies for the health of your body, some products are packed with chemicals to do the same job a natural ingredient can do, as well as bring in extra negative effects on your body. While you may look better, you certainly wont feel that way and the scary part is that you dont know when something bad will happen when you mess with products stuffed with chemicals. Exposure to chemicals can product results in a short time frame or over a larger period of time, suddenly you may get a disease that appears to be from nowhere, but the fact is youve been harboring chemicals inside you for months, feeding a volcano of disaster bound to explode someday.

Some chemicals in products are not needed at ALL. These include fragrances, or things to make the product smell good; these ingredients are listed under the single word fragrance but beware that they are many components that make up one single smell. With natural ingredients such the commonly known herb products, you know fully well that they already come with a great smell, theres no need for added chemicals in this case.

Another chemical to avoid is artificial coloring, or flavoring. Believe it or not, some skin care products such as lip gloss, come with chemicals to make the product taste good. Other products have artificial coloring, using chemicals to give it a certain color. It is weird, since you are applying these onto your body, all you should worry about is if it will leave your skin color changed or not.

The last common chemical to avoid is the preservatives, used to keep the skin care substance lasting a long time. Now this can be an important issue, but there are better natural ways that are healthier, and you can follow simple storage tips to extend the lifespan of your products. A cool thing to know is with an herbal treatment, you can store it as you would food, since in a way it still is food but being used for another purpose.

These chemicals are some that you should avoid, not only in skin care, but all of your products. Some companies like to pack their stuff with extra chemicals to raise the buying price, especially the ones that seem cheap and a good deal.

With herbal skin care treatments, you are dealing with natural ingredients; some of them are foods that you eat everyday and all of them are grown naturally from the ground. Beware that some herbal treatments for the skin are still coming with chemicals, so read your labels and research on any ingredient that looks suspicious.

Herbs beneficial to skin care include wakame seaweed, made famous by the Japanese and is a reason why everyone in the country who uses it has a youthful appearance. Wakame helps moisturize the skin, as well as protect the supply of elastin and collagen in skin cells and tissue; this all helps keep the skin free of wrinkles and maintain a firm but smooth texture. Wakame also provides antioxidant protection against free radical damage that is harmful towards all of your body, not just the skin.

Another plant is nettle, which is known for fighting the battle of hair loss, but also helps the skin by relieving skin irritation and smooths out wrinkles. Other herbs include green tea, saw palmetto, witch hazel and aloe vera. All of these plants combined help fight against signs of aging skin, such as wrinkles and lines, baggy and puffy skin, dry skin, redness and irritation, and promoting skin health through efficient cell regeneration.

Theres a lot of information about these and the many different plants and the results that they can bring for your skin and your body. Did you know you can have all the processes that the usual skin products can do, such as exfoliation, moisturizing, and even fight acne; all this can be accomplished naturally using organic herbs.

With herbs for skin care you must examine two related but separate questions. First, what are some common medicinal herbs used in skin care? And second, do they actually work? In this article I will also talk about the skin conditions that these herbs can treat.

Basil, or Holy Basil as it is sometimes referred to is used for all manner of medicinal purposes. As a skin care product it is regarded as a de-toxifier that is particularly effective in the treatment of acne. However some fans of the herb claim that ..the soil on which the basil plant grows becomes so pure that if you have a mud bath with that soil almost all ailments of the skin disappear. It is rather difficult to believe that basil (and the associated soil) could possibly live up to these claims.

Sandalwood oil is another popular herbal skin care treatment. Since the oil is extracted from the wood of a tree, the definition of herbal is a little tenuous. Not that this seems to worry the people who promote it. An important word of caution should be applied to sandalwood oil. It should not be applied directly to the skin rather it must be mixed with a carrier oil such as Bergamot, Geranium, or Lavender. It is claimed that sandalwood relieves itchiness and irritation, and cures a wide variety of common skin problems. Much like Basil Sandalwood is also used to treat a variety of other medical complaints.

Turmeric is also used in herbal skin care. It is used to remove fine lines, dark circles under the eyes, eczema, and even psoriasis. It is also included in some sunscreens.

It is fair to say that at least some of the claims made by some fans and some skin care producers of herbal skin care products are wildly exaggerated. It is however, foolhardy to dismiss herbal skin care entirely it is a matter of separating fact from fiction. Do not let wildly exaggerated claims either put you off or push you towards herbal skin care. Use a reputable skin care company and your own good sense and you too can reap the benefits.

Natural herbal skin care has been the choice of beautiful women the world over for thousands of years. It has only been recently that cosmetic companies have formulated makeup and skin care products that contain chemicals and artificial additives in an effort to improve on the natural herbal skin care regimens that have been around for centuries.
But today many women have come to realize that these harsh chemicals and artificial ingredients that are so expensive aren’t necessarily good for their skin – in fact, in some cases they can cause drying and stripping of the skin’s natural pH balance and interfere with the body’s natural skin repair process. That’s why so many have returned to the natural herbal skin care routines that are based on some of the same key ingredients that might have been used by legendary beauties like Cleopatra or Marie Antoinette.
Some basic beauty secrets of the ages – natural herbal ingredients for skin care includes essential oils, rose water, crushed almonds, sea salts, rice powder, shea butter and purified water are common. These ingredients are good for the skin as rarely you will encounter any allergy to them. These natural ingredients can help to moisturize dry skin and contains cooling botanicals to promote the healing of blemishes and a complete skin care regimen. That’s what makes natural herbal skin care so important as a part of your daily skin care routine. Using natural, soothing ingredients can actually calm and soothe your skin, reducing the number of break-outs and rashes. Soothing ingredients like oatmeal for sensitive skin calm itching and redness when rare flare-ups do occur due to environmental stressors.

In the long history of mankind, herbs and plants have been used for many purposes such as curing diseases, relieving stress, and rejuvenating the mind and body. One should not be surprised by that fact that herbal skin care is today one of the most popular methods of taking care of your skin.

Here is some guidance on the benefits of herbal skin care.

The primary benefit of herbs as a base for skin treatment is the absence of chemicals in the products. Chemicals certainly have their uses but they also often come with many side effects. Just read the small print on some of the product packaging. Chemical products are also often the source of allergic reactions and agitated skin conditions from over-application.

Herbal skin treatment products are formulated from natural ingredients that are in harmony with the body and do not attempt to alter the body chemistry to obtain desired effects. These products support the body’s immune system to naturally fight the causes of skin blemishes and other skin issues.

Skin type is important when you want to select the right products. You would have either normal to combination, oily, dry, or sensitive skin.

Herbal skin care products are far more compatible with all the skin types because they tend to be milder than their chemical counterparts. On the other hand, they do take a little longer before you see their full effect.

Still, even with herbs, you do have to select products that match you skin type, even though a wrong selection would not be as detrimental as select the wrong chemical product.

Another consideration is using the right product at the right time. There are herbal skin products designed for use in the morning and others designed for use before you go to bed. Others protect you from the harmful effects of sunrays during the day. For full effect, the right products for the matching skin type must be used at the recommended time of day.

If you are looking for overnight cures for your acne or skin blemishes, the herbs will disappoint you. On the other hand, if you want to use products that are not enemies of your body’s natural chemistry and that work well with a little patience, then herbal skin care products are definitely the solution of choice.
