If Your Skin Could Talk, What Would It Say?

How can you tell if your skin is talking to you? Would you know if you have been ignoring it? The way I see it, to know if your skin is talking to you, is simple. Look at it, see if you notice any symptoms such as acne, flakiness, chapping, brown spots, redness… I think you get the picture. Our skin talks to us, by exhibiting symptoms to tell us something is wrong. When we begin to see symptoms it is time to take action, this is what I refer to “listening” to our skin.
There are many actions you can take, but the one we tend to overlook is investigating the skin care products you use.
*acne,pimples

*oily skin

*dry skin

*brown spots, discoloration of the skin

*blackheads

*dull skin

*red, blotchy skin

Did you ever consider maybe the symptoms listed above are all caused by the skin care products you use on your skin everyday?
Well folks…….they are.
You may need to start listening to your skin, it may be talking to you…and you may be ignoring it. Your skin knows what it needs and you may need to start taking the actions to give it what it wants. Stop ignoring your skin and start listening to it. You will be very happy you did. Consider a change and try something different.

How Antioxidants Can Improve Your Skin’S Appearance?

Jan 15th, 2010

Antioxidant skin care uses active ingredients known to fight and neutralize the damaging effects of free-radicals. Free-radicals are emitted when oxidization occurrs. Accumulation of oxidized dam,age is considered a primary cause of pre-mature aging of the skin – wrinkles, discoloration, uneven tone, and acute redness and blemishes (rosacea). Whether it was Cleopatra who used goat’s milk to bathe her skin or the modern Mediterranean women who use lemon juice to clear their skin of blemishes the usage of antioxidants has been widespread across the ages. Although their benefits were highly prized even in those days, it is only today, that modern scientists are discovering the positive effects these have on the skin. Are natural antioxidants always better? There are many natural alternatives to using this chemical however it is always best to opt for a formulated product available through a reputed manufacturer. It is because these have been dermatologically tested and are devoid of side effects. The thing about using natural ingredients straight is that they can be too concentrated and result in burns on the skin. How do these work? One of the biggest culprits of damage on the skin’s surface is the UV rays of the sun. These cause various skin problems ranging from darkening and dullness, blotchy skin to dry and flaky skin, acne and breakouts to even serious ailments like skin cancer. By using an antioxidant formula one can gently peel off the outer layers of the skin cells thereby revealing a fresher, youthful appearance. These antioxidants also work in eliminating dark spots and patchy skin which originates from deeper layers of the skin. Typically, the harmful effects of pollution and other substances in the atmosphere result in free radicals settling into the skin cells. These free radicals destroy healthy skin cells and the underlying collagen tissue as well. This results in unhealthy, sagging skin and even wrinkles at times. With the help of such antioxidant treatments one can successfully repair damaged skin cells and restore the vitality and suppleness of the skin. Free Radicals: A Cause of Skin Cancer? Free radicals can result in genetic mutation in skin cells which in turn lead to cancerous growth. Once cancer sets in, it causes damage to the skin cells which is beyond any repair. Thus, the best alternative is to start using antioxidants early on to fight the signs of aging. These treatments curb the spread of free radicals and help keep our skin looking supple and healthy. Right from pigmentation marks to spots on the skin to growths on the surface of the skin – all can be corrected with proper usage of antioxidants. There are many products available these days which promise fantastic results. Green Tea antioxidant creams, Wine mud masks and other gel based formulas work wonders.

Are Your Hobbies Harming Your Skin?

Hobbies and interests serve to cheer you up and heighten your spirits. They are pleasurable indulgences that wither offer your physical health benefits or enhance your creativity and expression. However, the hobbies that you may enjoy may also be putting your skin at risk to certain damage. Here are some potentially risky hobbies for the skin and tips to keep your skin safe:Hobby: Gym & ExercisingWhile going to the gym and exercising can provide you with a great deal of skin care benefits like increased blood circulation and a radiant glow, it can also put your skin at risk to damage.Bacterial InfectionsGyms are generally hot and sweaty. And this is what makes them the perfect place for bacteria and fungus to survive and transfer from one person to the other. There can be germs everywhere be it on the mats, weights and other equipments, machines and so on. They can get transferred to your skin and give rise to acne and blemishes. Therefore, make sure your clean the equipment and machines with a clean towel before suing them. Also, take a shower as soon as you are done. Damp clothes can cause itchiness or rashes.DehydrationSince gyms usually have air conditioners that make the air dry, your skin loses moisture. Moreover, exercising speeds up the rate at which body loses water that may often lead to dehydration of the skin. Dehydration causes a reduction in the blood flow to your skin which may further diminish the necessary nutrients that is required for skin repair and renewal. As a result, your complexion may become dull and your skin, dry and flaky. In order to prevent this, drink a lot of water before your start exercising and take small sips every 15 minutes during your workout.Hobby: Outdoor SportsBe it football or be it baseball… anything that makes you spend time under the sun puts your skin at risk of severe sun damage.Damage by UV RaysThe harsh ultraviolet rays of the sun are responsible for causing painful sunburns and premature aging of the skin. This leads to the development of wrinkles, fine lines and brown spots. Also, the skin becomes dry and saggy. UV exposure also increases the risk of skin cancer.Heat RashesHigh temperatures and humidity can cause heat rashes. When the skin pores become clogged, they are unable to release sweat to cool the skin and this traps the sweat within the skin. Heat rashes appear as clusters of red spots that are itchy and prickly. Therefore, make sure you wear protective clothing when out in the sun.AcneThe profuse sweating from outdoor sports when combined with oil, bacteria and dead skin cells attracts dirt and debris. This leads to the clogging of skin pores that further cause acne. Therefore, make sure you protect your skin by applying a broad spectrum sunscreen with minimum SPF 30. Look for a sunscreen that delivers anti-aging nutrients to your skin but doesn’t sting the skin. Instead of rich creamy formulations, use lighter oil-free sunscreens.Hobby: SwimmingSwimming pools are generally loaded with chlorine in order to kill germs and keep the water clean. However, chlorine does not go well with the skin.Skin DrynessChlorine has a major drying affect on the skin and also leaves behind a mild odor. Therefore, make sure you take a shower immediately in order to wash off the chlorine deposits on your body. Also, moisturize your skin with a rich moisturizer that hydrates intensively and does not irritate the skin.Hobby: Hiking & CampingHiking and camping can be great fun but if you are not careful; your skin can pay a heavy toll for all the fun.Poison Ivy & Poison OakThese plants contain sticky oil called urushiol that sticks to almost anything and irritates your skin when it comes in contact. It may further result in the development of blisters, soars and rashes.UV damageBecause of the outdoor traveling, your skin becomes prone to damage by the UV rays. Therefore make sure your wear protective clothing and slather on dollops of sunscreen all over your body.

Dry Skin Or Something Else?

Jan 14th, 2010

Author: Louise Forrest
Source: articledashboard.com

Thousands of people suffer from dry, flaky, and itchy skin every year, so know already that you are not alone with your skin problem. Even if you discover that your dry skin is actually a more serious condition, still be calm in the knowledge that you are not the only one with a particular skin problem.

Your dry skin may be as simple as feeling dry with a dry appearance, or it may become so extreme your skin can begin to crack, similar to cracks in dry ground. Ouch. Hopefully you will catch any problems before your skin gets to that point, as skin cracking is painful and can be difficult to be rid of.
Should your dry skin prove to be more of a problem than you thought, find out if it is something more than just everyday, average dry skin. Then you can take more steps to help your skin heal.

Xeroderma: This condition of abnormally dry skin has a number of possible causes. Certain medications, an overexposure to the sun, a systemic illness, or a deficiency of vitamin A can all be reasons you have skin that is drier than it should be. You may be experiencing a great deal of flaky skin, itchiness, and other strong symptoms attributed to dry skin. You should check with a dermatologist first before deciding this is the one and only condition you have, but in the case that you do, knowing the reasons behind it can help lead you to finding ways of freeing yourself from excessive dryness.

Eczema: There are many different types of eczema, ranging in their appearance, location, and reasons for developing. Generally, eczema is the result of your skin reacting to sources that can be either external or internal, such as soaps you wash with or medication you have taken. Skin that becomes inflamed can lead to dry skin that itches, flakes, oozes, and can take on other unpleasant attributes, depending upon which type of eczema you develop.

Before taking any other medications or putting on skin care products, find out if they will contain ingredients that will only serve to aggravate your eczema. And do all you can to avoid stress, as this has shown to increase eczema outbreaks (similar to stress affecting acne outbreaks).

Psoriasis: Like eczema, psoriasis can come in many different shapes and forms and show up on various parts of the body. Also like eczema, scientists have yet to figure out the main reasons the skin condition appears. Psoriasis is the results of excessive skin growth. Normal skin grows and eventually makes its way toward the surface, the other layers of dead skin coming off. This is cell turnover.

However, people with psoriasis still have healthy skin cells living out their time on the surface when new skin cells want to move on up and take their place. The problem is then dealing with too many layers of live cells, which blood vessels then all try to supply necessary elements to, which can result in redness and swelling. Dry skin can then appear, looking scaly, silvery, and have other various characteristics depending upon the type of psoriasis you suffer from. Certain treatments have some effect on psoriasis, and like other skin problems, you should see your dermatologist before starting any large-scale skin regimen on your own.

Conditions such as eczema and psoriasis tend to be chronic, but some can appear and disappear depending upon the cause. Most of these problems will also be quite obvious as being more than just dry skin, but some people may choose to shrug it off as a temporary problem. They allow it to get worse, more aggravated, and only go to a doctor after it gets to a point where it will be a long road to getting back to that place of happy skin

How to Locate the Best Moisturizer For Oily Skin Easily & Quickly

Jan 14th, 2010

Author: Rebecca S. Purple

Aging symptoms appears a bit slower than other skin types. However, the fact that oily skin appears dark, dull, and greasy with coarse pores, skin care for oily skin is a little bit different when compared to normal skin.

Therefore, while locating for best moisturizer for oily skin, one should remember to buy a product that contains the right ingredients suitable for providing appropriate care to oily skin.

Beneficial Ingredients

Always check for products that contain ingredients derived from the nature when buying the best moisturizer for oily skin. Natural products are advantageous because they are readily absorbed by the skin and produce the desired effects without causing any deleterious side effects on the skin.

Examples of some natural products that should be present in a good quality moisturizer include Cynergy TK, Phytessence Wakame, Jojoba oil, Babassu wax, and Shea butter. All these ingredients can penetrate deep into the skin layers and keep the skin hydrated.

Natural products such as jojoba oil ensure effective gas exchange between the skin layers by keeping the skin pores open, and balance the sebum secretions in the skin, thereby ensuring a soft and supple skin that appears less greasy.

When these products are used in combination with other natural products such as tocopherol acetate (vitamin E), Avocado, Macadamia oil, Rigin, allantoin, and active manuka honey, they are effective in reducing the various symptoms of aging such as wrinkles, frown lines, and dark spots.

Other advantages of natural products include rejuvenating the damaged skin tissues, improving the skin repair capability, and stimulating the growth of new skin cells.

Ingredients that should be avoided

While purchasing best moisturizer for oily skin, one should never opt for products that contain substances such as paraffin, sodium-based detergents, parabens, artificial preservatives, fragrances, and alcohol.

While paraffin clogs the skin pores and prevents respiration resulting in the appearance of acne, detergents and alcohol removes the sebum from the skin surface leaving it dry and dehydrated.

Parabens, chemical preservatives and artificial fragrances are extremely harmful for the skin as these substances can lead to inflammation, itching, irritation, and other allergic reactions.

In some cases, an effective method to get rid of acne lies in your diet. You can achieve clear skin by eating certain types of foods resulting in clearer and more beautiful skin.
Understanding acne is one of the first steps to clearing it up. Most people think that acne is an infection, but the bacterial infection that causes acne breakouts is sometimes related to hormone changes linked to stress. You can also help in your fight against acne by avoiding excessive stress and eating healthy foods because a good diet can help your body fight infection.
How do you know which types of foods you can eat to achieve heathly clear skin. SKin friendly foods fall into two groups – alkaline-forming foods and acid-forming foods. Foods that form alkaline and not acid are best for keeping clear skin.
Foods that form acid include yogurt, cheese and milk as well as meats and fatty fried foods; and cooked or unrefined carbohydrates, like white bread, rice and pasta. You should not eat these foods or if you do you should only eat small amounts of them.
For clear skin stick with Alkaline-forming foods. These can include fruits, fresh vegetables, nuts, and even seeds. These Alkaline-forming foods tend to be digested quickly because they assist the digestive system in fuctioning. Acid-forming foods can actually inhibit the digestive system which causing toxins to accumulate in your body. These toxins can cause acne breakouts.
Also, try to stay away from sugar and foods that are high in yeast. Beer is definately not something you should consume if you are trying to clear your skin.
Drinking a lot of water because this will help flush toxins from your body as well as re-hydrate your skin. A sign that your skin is dehydrated is that it appears oily. When the skin gets dry your pores can produce excessive oil.
For clearer skin, eat a healthy well rounded diet including good portions of the alkaline forming foods which clear skin and you will have clearer more beautiful skin.

Premature Skin Aging

You maybe in your 20s or your early 30s under the illusion that aging skin is something you will encounter decades later when suddenly you get alarmed when you notice fine lines and wrinkles appearing on your skin. This is called premature aging of the skin. The youthfulness of your skin is defined by how you treat your skin rather than your chronological age. If your skin has been exposed to sunlight, smoke and stress, the collagen and elastin fibers within the skin cells will start depleting at a more rapid pace and your skin will start acting old and show signs of aging very early. Therefore, you need to be very careful with your skin care and prevent and repair the damage before it is too late. Here are some tips that will help to slow down the aging process and even reverse the damage already caused.Stop SmokingSmoking is the second biggest cause of skin damage after unprotected sun exposure. Nicotene chokes your blood vessels and decreases the oxygen flow to the skin. As a result, the skin becomes dry and saggy and your complexion becomes dull.Use AHA & BHA Skin Care ProductsAlpha Hydroxy Acids and Beta Hydroxy Acids, also called retinols, are powerful anti aging ingredients. Apply a small concentration of these products to your skin daily and you will see significant improvement in your skin quality over time. AHAs helps you exfoliate the dead skin cells and make your complexion appear young and radiant. It also diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and heals aging skin. While using retinoid based skin care products, make sure you stay protected from sunlight. This is because retinoids makes the skin highly susceptible to sunburns and other forms of sun damage.Exfoliate RegularlyMake sure you use a good quality scrub or exfoliating products and exfoliate your skin at least once a week. People with oily skin can exfoliate up to two-three times in a week. Look for ingredients like salicylic acid and glycolic acid that scrape off the dead skin cells and reveal the fresh new cells from underneath. Regular exfoliation accelerates the regenerative process of the skin and makes your complexion more radiant and flawless.Use Eye Creams DailyThe skin on the eyes are extremely thin and sensitive. This is why the eye contours are among the first areas to show signs of damage and aging. Therefore, make sure you protect the skin around your eyes by using rich eye cream or eye care product. You can use Skin Care Heaven Eye Serum. It reduces the the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles along with dark circles and puffiness. This eye serum is enhanced with powerful antioxidants from green tea and hydrated with Hyaluronic Acid.Invest in AntioxidantsAntioxidants are powerful skin care ingredients that supply the skin with essential nutrients and prevent damage caused by aging and free radicals. Green tea is a rich antioxidant. Try Skin Care Heaven Green Tea Soothing Cream. It is full of potent antioxidants that help to reduce the signs of aging. This product is great for dry, maturing skin that is in need of rejuvenation. This Green Tea Soothing Cream is also perfect for sensitive, Rosacea and acne prone skin.

Causes of Aging Skin – Know the Reasons Before You Heal

Jan 13th, 2010

Author: Marilynn Syrett
Source: ezinearticles.com

There are a variety of skin treatments available that claim to rectify the signs of aging and make your skin appear more youthful and radiant. However, before you begin using the various skin care products and skin treatments, it is very important you know the primary causes that accelerate the aging process.

Aging is a natural process. While some factors are controlled by your genes, others are a cause of external factors like the environment and individual habits. Premature aging is a cause of the combined and enhanced effect of both the intrinsic and extrinsic factors.

Here are some common aspects that cause the skin to age and display signs of aging:

Prolonged Unprotected Exposure to Sunlight

The sun’s rays contain the harmful UVA and UVB radiation that penetrates through the skin’s surface and cause intrinsic damage to the tissues. And prolonged unprotected exposure to sunlight can promote the aging process of the skin by accelerating the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and age spots on your skin. Moreover, too much exposure to these rays can even cause skin cancer.

Therefore, always apply generous amounts of sunscreen all over your body before you venture into the sun. Use a sunscreen that offers broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection against sunlight. Some product suggestions:

• iS Clinical SPF 25 Treatment Sunscreen – An innovative sunscreen formulation that provides broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays and repairs sun damage thereby reducing redness and painful inflammation. It suits all skin types including oily and acne prone skin. With regular use, it even treats Rosacea. Great to have for both prevention and cure.
• iS Clinical SPF 20 Powder Sunscreen – A breakthrough product in sunscreens, it contains physical UV blockers comprising of 25% titanium dioxide and 20% zinc oxide. This special nanotechnology formulation provides sun protection against a vast spectrum of sun rays and is easy to apply..
• Obagi C-Sunguard SPF 30 – A unique Obagi formulation that uses ultra-sheer Z-Cote, an effective barrier agent that provides superior protection against the UVA and UVB rays of the sun that accelerate the aging process of the skin.

Improper Skin Care

Aging can also be a result of prolonged improper skin care habits. Women often fail to take proper care of their skin and end up compromising on the skin’s health. In the long run, the skin begins to exhibit visible signs of damage and further leads to premature aging.

Make sure you care well for the skin and take appropriate steps to keep it protected:

• Follow a skin care regimen consistently and religiously. If you want a readymade skin care regimen in a complete set, try the Obagi Condition and Enhance System. It contains Obagi Nu-Derm Foaming Gel, Toner, Clear (2 tubes), Exfoderm Forte, Blender, and Healthy Skin Protection SPF 35 and makes for a great skin care regimen to follow that erases signs of aging skin like wrinkles and fine lines.
• Wash your face twice a day, once in the morning and once at night
• Make sure to remove any make-up on your face before going to bed at night

Overuse of Cosmetics

In a bid to look beautiful, women often end up using a whole lot of cosmetics on their skin that ultimately lead to the deterioration of skin quality. It’s always advisable to limit the use of cosmetics and artificial substances on the skin. And if an overuse of cosmetics can’t be done away with, it should always be ensured that you clean your face and rid it off all impurities at regular intervals.

Use Obagi Nu-Derm Foaming Gel to deep clean your skin and make it clean and fresh. Since it caters to normal as well as oily skin, it can be used by just about anyone. Even people with dry skin can use the gel if they follow it up with effective moisturization.
